Public benefits
The direct benefits flowing from Newtownabbey Men's Shed purposes are that those older males from our local community are provided with a safe and welcoming space to engage in positive social interaction with others experiencing similar issues as their own. We provide an environment to target social need for those who have retired, suffered loss
or are looking for a place to meet others. Many older men with the Newtownabbey local area lose some sense of purpose with the loss of their work role, status, workmates and income etc. They often find themselves disengaged from their community, and therefore we established our organisation to provide a positive environment for those in need of additional support and company and safe place to do so. They will have the opportunity to use their own skills and share the skills of others through projects involving them in craft work, wood work, educational workshops etc. They will be educated, supported and encouraged to have a better/healthier role in the community. The benefits we have identified are demonstrated through recording regular attendance numbers of individuals taking part in the activities/programmes we have to offer and becoming members of our organisation. We will also monitor verbal/written feedback & questionnaires with new and current members. There is no harm arising from the purposes of Newtownabbey Men's Shed. The beneficiaries of Newtownabbey Men's Shed are individuals from the community who use the facility and services we provide. Our main beneficiaries are older men from the Newtownabbey and surrounding area who suffer from a range of emotional, physical and mental health issues; those who feel lonely or isolated due to retirement, loss of a loved one etc.; and those who wish to engage in social interaction with others experiencing the similar issues as their own. There is no private benefit flowing from the activities of Newtownabbey Men's Shed
