Public benefits

Direct benefits are the removal, reimaging, enhancement or change in status of the peace walls identified within the area; this leads to greater accessibility of amenities in the area and increases the standard of living for all the community. Greater communication and connectivity where all who are directly impacted are given the opportunity to

have a direct input into the changes to their area and create community cohesion, a shared purpose of addressing local issues and enhancing life chances and skills for the entire community. These benefits can be identified through the increase in individuals completing consultative surveys, attendance at facilitated events and increased attendance at cross community and good relations events. Further demonstrated via the change in physical barriers and the greater use of shared space and participation where the community feel safe in this participation. Increase in the numbers of individuals who wish to become directly involved in organising events, engaging with other agencies and attendance at meetings allowing for direct input. None of these purposes give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of these purposes are residents who live in the Lower North Belfast area and the wider community. There is no private benefit flowing from any of the these purposes.

What your organisation does

Duncairn Community Partnership carries out its purposes by managing change in Lower North Belfast through consultation, facilitation, engagement and cross community, good relations based events. A determination is made with regards to the physical barriers (peace walls), their need and the opportunity for removal, reimaging and/or change of

status. It brings together all agencies in this process (statutory and community led) to address these and other social and recreational issues. Promotes and provides opportunities for shared space facilities to meet the needs of the wider community.
