Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow to from our charity to the children in our setting arise from play and social integration which plays an important role in the child’s early developmental years and in the transition from pre-school to formal school education. These include improvements in a child’s social, physical, creative, emotional and
intellectual needs, the provision of facilities for play and learning in a safe, stimulating and child centred environment for all children of the agreed age regardless of disability, social, religious or ethnic background. We provide a safe and stimulating environment in which children from all backgrounds can acquire the skills and attitudes to become individuals and successful learners. We are a community based pre-school and playgroup where parents from all backgrounds can become involved through fundraising and/or joining the committee enabling isolated parents and carers or new parents and carers to meet each other. How these are demonstrated: The benefits of pre-school education and early intervention are well documented. Plans are designed for individual children as required and observations and assessments are carried out to ensure the child’s individual needs are met. These are also demonstrated through regular Education and Training Inspectorate inspections, Social Services inspections and regular feedback from parents and carers through evaluation forms and interviews. Harm: There is no harm arising from our purposes. In order to further prevent any harm arising, the pre-school and playgroup provides training for staff and committee members in First Aid and Child Protection as required and any other courses that become available and are of benefit to the children in our setting. Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of the charity are pre-school children of the agreed age from 2 years and 10 months until 4 years and 11 months as stipulated by the Regulating Authority the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust) in Moira and its surrounding areas. Private Benefit: There is a private benefit to employees however it is incidental to the educational purposes and is not a direct part of our purposes. The charity also provides an opportunity for students to obtain practical experience in a playgroup setting who are studying for a recognised childcare course which may be of benefit to them privately. Staff and committee training is also made available which is needed to ensure the charity is managed effectively and efficiently by those who are responsible for the overall management of the setting. The charity endeavours to keep parental fees and contributions to a minimum. Rainbow Corner Pre-School and Playgroup is a not-for-profit organisation and after wages and expenditure incurred through running costs of rent, etc., any remaining surplus is reinvested into the pre-school and playgroup for the sole benefit of the children using the facility.

Rainbow Corner Pre-School and Playgroup delivers the above benefits through a curriculum that is planned to ensure that the children learn and develop within the six areas of the curriculum: the arts; language development; early mathematical experiences; personal, social and emotional development; physical development and movement; and the world
around us. The setting follows the Pre-School Curriculum laid down by Department of Education for Northern Ireland. Observations and assessments of each child's development take place, relevant planning is carried out to ensure the provision is sufficient to further advance this evidential learning. Through a continuous process of evaluation, the staff carry out plans necessary for improvement of the children’s educational provision. This process includes regular staff meetings, ongoing training, support from local primary schools and the Early Years Organisation. The staff also seek feedback from parental interviews and questionnaires, inspections carried out, recommendations and support given by Socials Services and the Education and Training Inspectorate. The pre-school offers five morning sessions (Monday to Friday) per week and the playgroup currently offers two afternoon sessions per week.
