Public benefits

The direct benefits from our purposes include increased social interaction through our events leading to reduced social isolation for the men; one to one IT training improves participant skills; improved physical health through identification of and addressing health conditions in the BCPP (Building Com Pharmacy Partnership); increased mood

following social interaction otherwise the men are at home and not engaging; we find those who retire from the agricultural/ construction industry have fewer networks of support and the Men’s Shed allows them the opportunity to use their skills and support each other. The benefits can be demonstrated by the numbers attending events/trips; verbal feedback from participants; increased engagement and interest from new members; photographs and press cuttings of our work. The use of tools/ saws could lead to harm but we have controls in place. Any powerful tools are locked away with controlled access and anyone doing woodwork works within their own capacity. We also have insurance to cover our activities. The charity’s beneficiaries are people within the Omagh District. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose.

What your organisation does

We have premises in Mullaghmore & Castleview, Omagh in which we provide services for men. These include training opportunities such as art, Introduction to technology, woodcrafts and gardening. We also run health programmes in which we engage speakers on various aspects of men's health such as cardio vascular, blood pressure, diabetes, weight

management. We have organised good practice visits to other men's shed and other facilities. We participate in community events and provide skills to other non profits in the area.
