Public benefits

The benefits which flow from the purposes include; enhanced community relations; improved integration of Somalis into northern Ireland society; improved education, skills and job prospects; preservation of Somali culture amongst the beneficiaries. Beneficiary will also benefit from wide range of recreational activities (including sports activities)

within Northern Ireland which will promote individual well-being and social inclusion of Somali Community in Northern Ireland. These benefits are measured through feedback from the beneficiary (Somali community), self-evaluation from our volunteers, regular internal reports and external reports, positive engagement with statutory agencies and monitoring and evaluation positive integration outcomes. There is no harm flowing from these purposes. Refugees/asylum seekers, families, Children And young people, parents, people with physical and mental health problems There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose.

What your organisation does

To further, the purpose of the organisation, we carry out a number of activities: We support the relationships between the Somali community and the local community in Northern Ireland to improved integration into local society. We hold weekly drop-in services where individuals in the community can get advice about public services (e.g. immigration,

education and health) as well as signposting services to support individuals in the Somali community, especially those who are vulnerable and hard to reach as a consequence of their social and economic deprivation. We also work the public service providers to understand how they can respond flexibility to Somali individual needs. Furthermore, we advocate for individuals in the community who suffered from hate crime through counselling and running hate crime workshops. We provide 4 days a week after-school homework club to school children and young people. More than 60 people take part this 4 days a week program. We support accommodation of Somali children in Northern Ireland schools. We also liaise with NI education authority to facilitate the education progress of Somali children and young people NI. Additionally, we provide weekly literacy and numeracy classes and English languages conversation courses for Somali individuals to eradicate language barrier problems. We promote mutual support among the Somali community and the host community and developed cultural awareness programs including sports activities, cultural workshops and seminars. We reorganise sports activities to support economically deprived young people in the community to have an opportunity to participate in sport be involved in regular exercise for health and social benefits. We have a good relationship with local and statutory organisations. We assist individuals in the community to gain further education and skills. We work with many local organisations that help unemployed members in the community to gain vocational training and further education

Charitable purposes

The purpose of this organisation is to support all individuals from Somalia in Northern Ireland through information, researches, education, advocacy, empowerment and to foster mutual support and integration between Somali community in Northern Ireland and the host communities without differentiation on the ground of race, colour, nationality, religion, gender and sexual orientation.
