The direct benefits which flow from purpose(a) encourage appreciation for and active participation in performing arts activities include: positive impacts on the emotional and mental well being of project participants and audiences; raising awareness of individual and community capacity to create change; creating safe platforms for the exchange of
ideas and the positive exploration of contentious issues; encouragement to develop critical thinking and challenge negative stereotypes. The direct benefits which flow from purpose (b) to encourage appreciation for the arts and stimulate the artistic creativity of people in the area of benefit by the provision of artistic performances, workshops, training, support and facilities for artistic expression and to use this as a medium to explore contemporary social issues include: increased confidence in dealing with and communicating complex personal and social concerns; greater awareness of the thoughts, fears and aspirations of others; capacity to engage with and enjoy structured cultural and educational programmes. The direct benefits which flow from purpose (c) to present, promote, organise, manage and produce performances, workshops and exhibitions of works of cultural and educational value, including performances, dramas, comedies, broadcasts, television shows, concerts, musical pieces, ballets, burlesques, film broadcasts, entertainments and exhibitions include: the provision of stimulating, accessible and challenging productions which contribute to the cultural vibrancy of Northern Ireland and engage participants and audiences who may feel excluded from other arts provision; encouraging voluntary individual and community participation in the planning and delivery of high quality cultural events; supporting the development of increased personal, social and cultural confidence. These benefits are evidenced through a range of monitoring and evaluation procedures including questionnaires, comment cards, video documentation and structured interviews. Examples of audience feedback from our recent work would include: “Touching, moving, empathetic – Hope it makes people think & ask for help”; “Excellent. Very real insight into thoughts of those feeling suicidal & those affected by it. I would watch it over and over again.” (The Prettiest Thing); “Fantastic. Amazing piece that reflected a culture that isn't often seen here & a voice that isn't heard.” (East Belfast Boy). Our workshops, training programmes and productions attract enthusiastic participants and audiences and are developed in close partnership with a wide range of community and grass roots agencies across N. Ireland. This work has been supported on a consistent and ongoing basis by public funding agencies who value the artistic and social value of our approach. The purposes of our charity will not give rise to any harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are the people of Northern Ireland without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion. We develop and deliver a programme of work in close partnership with a wide range of community based organisations across the region. Participants and audiences are of all ages and abilities and from widely varied social, economic, geographical and cultural backgrounds. Private benefit would include wages paid to two full time members of staff whose employment is incidental and necessary to the consistent delivery of our beneficial purposes. Fees are also paid to professional artists, technicians and workshop facilitators as a necessary result of carrying out our purposes. Venues and community agencies - which are themselves charities - may incidentally benefit from their engagement with our programmes and productions in terms of increased public profile and cultural weight.
