Public benefits

The direct benefit which flows from our purpose is the development and promotion of a better understanding of the culture and heritage of wooden boat building to the public and increase awareness of the rich and unique history of the area of benefit and the people who lived and worked here through enhancing the knowledge and understanding of the

traditional boat building, rowing and researching local boat builders. There is also a direct benefit flowing from the purposes to mental and physical health as a result of the traditional boat fixed seat rowing activity through the reduction of stress and an increase in the sense of belonging. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback and evaluations taken at events and activities and also with surveys from those participants and the general public on how our activities have made a difference to them together with gathering case studies and impact stories. The information collected will be placed on a publicly accessible website to allow free access to the information researched. The purposes of the charity may lead to the following harm in relation to boat building/maintenance and rowing there is a potential dangerous risk of injury or drowning. This risk is minimal and is mitigated by risk assessments that are carried out and training on the rowing sessions together with the wearing of lifejackets/buoyancy aids while engaged in or near water activities. These risks are vastly outweighed by the benefits demonstrated through the surveys and case studies undertaken. The public residing or with an interest in Fermanagh and the surrounding Counties. There is no private benefit for Trustees and members. Any benefit they gain is from enhanced wellbeing, experience and knowledge around the heritage and character of Lough Erne and the surrounding area and also training in boating skills and health and safety. Any private benefit is incidental and will directly contribute to achieving the Charity's purpose.

What your organisation does

Lough Erne Heritage seeks to share heritage and cultural knowledge by generating and providing research and educational resources for individuals, groups and educators. This will support a better awareness and understanding of the history and heritage of the Erne waterway; through collaborative working and combined efforts, the story will be told.

Exhibitions and demonstrations using the traditional boats, allowing the public the opportunity to row a traditional Lough Erne boat are also used.

Charitable purposes

The Objects are for the advancement of the heritage of wooden boat building, and the cultural heritage of the people who built and used them in the Lough Erne area ("the area of benefit") through the restoration, preservation and promotion of the skills and crafts used in their construction, maintenance and use and to advance the education of the public through displays, exhibitions and maintenance of an archive documenting the same.
