Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purpose, while providing accessible professional theatre to people of all ages across Northern Ireland, include positive impacts on confidence, self-esteem, personal development (including understanding themselves and others better), social development (including potential to challenge cultural prejudices and
societal differences), and emotional development. The direct benefits which flow from our purpose to promote creativity in the lives of the people of Northern Ireland is that engaging in creative activities can help develop qualities, such as communication, expression, identity, culture and imagination, helping all ages of people to shape their lives/identity. The benefits of our productions are demonstrated in the level of employment we provide for personnel like playwrights, directors, actors, stage managers, set and light designers and all other staff employed on individual productions. Audience figures are recorded for each performance, and feedback gathered for each production from audience and press. We then collate this information for evaluation. There are no benefits within our work that would lead to any harm. c21's main beneficiaries for productions are the general public within Northern Ireland, particularly those that enjoy theatre. However, we target all adults and young adults for potential audiences. Our outreach programmes beneficiaries can be community groups with a link to the topic being addressed, for example Mental Health or Cultural Diversity, but the majority of our programme beneficiaries are general groups or schools who take part. There are no private beneficiaries.
