Public benefits

The Archdiocese of Armagh support and enhances the physical, spiritual and mental wellbeing of both the Catholic community in the Archdiocese numbering approximately 236,000, as well as the wider community. The public celebration of Mass, births and funerals serves to enhance the spiritual aspect of the lives of the community in the Archdiocese

and elsewhere. Through our schools and youth clubs, we educate and support our children. We instil in them a moral and ethical structure for use throughout their lives and assist in their attaining an educational achievement commensurate with their ability. Financial assistance serves to help the disadvantaged and homeless and assists in the relief of poverty both at home and abroad. It further serves to counter the ravages of famine and war throughout the world. Other benefits include the importing of positive values attitudes and skills. Central to this is the creation and enhancement of societal bonds, community development and cohesion. Attendance at religious services leads to spiritual enhancement. Parish schools provide education to children of all faiths. The Diocese provides support for the homeless and disadvantaged. It raises money for the less fortunate. It provides support for the sick and elderly. It provides financial support for the relief of poverty famine and natural disaster. It engages in ecumenical programmes. The charity identifies no harm arising from its purposes and activities. The activities of the Archdiocese providing public benefit are overseen by the Board of Director/Trustees of St Patrick’s Archdiocesan Trust Limited who supply strategic direction, government and management of the charity. No distinction is made and no-one is excluded. There are no geographical, religious or membership limitations. In so far as the charity’s activities promote the Roman Catholic faith there is nevertheless no measurable restriction in benefit. No fees are levied. The charity reaches out to all including those beyond the immediate Catholic community to provide comfort, assistance and material help to all who might need it. There is no discernible private benefit flowing from any of the charity’s purposes.
