Public benefits

The purpose of 'upholding' the Jerusalem Declaration statement of faith has the direct benefits of: a) providing support for clergy and churches within the Church of Ireland which can identify with and find a unity of purpose under that statement. As such those persons and churches feel more motivated and engaged in their ministry. b) feeling

less isolated and marginalised in upholding their orthodox Anglican beliefs within an Anglican church of a broader spectrum of beliefs. With spiritual faith being inherently a deeply personal commitment and church ministry often described is a vocation or ‘calling’ into a particular denomination, there is greater potential amongst orthodox ministers and congregations to feel isolated or misunderstood as they realise their beliefs are gradually conflicting more and more with that denomination. This can be a traumatic experience for clergy and parishioners. As such there is often a rediscovered sense of purpose and belonging as they encounter a theological as well as denominational likemindedness of persons in our organisation. This is effected not least by our global vision of Anglicanism with speakers in the orthodox Anglican tradition from Australia recently, Canada later in 2017, and requests made of African dioceses, the worlds largest orthodox support base. c) provision of better ordinand training: our purposes refer to faithful preaching, teaching and obedience. This implies a biblical normative of belief. The believe the current theological education is sadly lacking on this area. The 3 year curriculum gives a mere 24 hours to biblical studies – 12 hours of Old Testament, 12 hours of New Testament. Over years this has weakened the confessional character of Church of Ireland clergy. In response we intend initially to train clergy overseas within an orthodox Anglican tradition, and in due course establish our own training within Ireland. This public benefit of providing support for clergy and churches is notoriously difficult to demonstrate. We believe it can be measured mainly by expressions of support and involvement we received from parishes even at this early stage, namely in Portadown, Knockbreda, Ballinderry, Dublin, Belfast, Carrickfergus and Dundonald, as well as from quasi-church organisations within the Church of Ireland such as Crosslinks. Clergy from all these areas have met at a central location approximately one to two monthly for over the last 12 months to consider the business of the organisation and how to organise and promote it. As we publicise further we expect to support churches from across Ireland as a whole and will demonstrate this in our trustees report. We held a residential weekend in November 2016 which 19 people attended, with very positive feedback as to the support it provided to clergy, to the extent that a similar weekend in November 2017 has been booked and programme put together. We do not envisage any harm arising from the purposes. We accept that the organisation could be perceived as divisive given the Anglican church wishing to try to unite all persuasions. However we feel this is misconstrued as we are essentially a support organisation as opposed to a protest or splinter group. If anything, by providing a safe harbor, our aims will retain (and grow) the Church of Ireland membership in Ireland and accordingly support very many of its causes and purposes at the same time, purposes which on the whole we do not envisage conflicting with our purposes. The charity's beneficiaries are: -Individual clergy and congregations in Anglican parishes across Ireland -The Church of Ireland denomination. It is the 2nd largest church in Rep of Ireland with 126,000 members and 3rd largest in N Ireland with 250,000 members. It is overall 2nd largest in all of Ireland. -The Christian faith we profess is for the common good of every member of society, and the benefits we work for are not exclusive to our members or to orthodox Anglicans alone. As we uphold bi

What your organisation does

It 'upholds' the Jerusalem Declaration and 'restores Anglican commitment to biblical truth' by sponsoring and organising opportunities (including papers, lectures, seminars, conferences, study materials or other means) to engage with issues of Anglican biblical orthodoxy, often delivered jointly with others who share our interests e.g., Crosslinks,

The Evangelical Fellowship of Irish Clergy, (EFIC), Irish Church Missions (ICM). This also directly fulfills the purpose which the organisation derives from the 2008 GAFC of 'faithful preaching and teaching'. It 'revitalises a commitment...to the ...gospel of Jesus Christ' by the dissemination of information about Anglican congregations in the wider Communion that are separated from their diocese and/or denomination, about how support and fellowship might be offered, and through establishing an action plan for those who find themselves in this predicament. This also helps clergy to 'uphold' the Jerusalem Declaration, and the fellowship and support offered acts to 'unite Anglicans under Christ'.

Charitable purposes

The advancement of the orthodox Anglican Christian faith within Ireland by upholding the Jerusalem Declaration set out in the schedule to these articles and originally confessed within the Jerusalem Statement of the Global Anglican Future Conference, held in 2008 to restore Anglican commitment to biblical truth through faithful preaching, teaching and obedience thus uniting Anglicans under Christ and revitalising a commitment to guarding and proclaiming to the world the unchanging, transforming gospel of Jesus Christ.
