Public benefits

The direct benefits that flow are:the promotion of animal welfare to develop compassion among the public. The promotion of a service that cares for abandoned or injured animals and a service that raises awareness among the public of animal abuse. The safe return of a lost dog reduces the anxiety and stress of dog owners. Stray and unwanted dogs

running around in public can pose a risk to persons safety and may cause traffic accidents. To remove these dogs from public areas reduces the risks of persons being bitten by dogs or dogs causing traffic accidents. By rehoming dogs after they are spayed/neutered and microchipped reduces the risk of unwanted dogs running the streets. Microchipping dogs before they are rehomed allows for proper identification of any irresponsible dog owners. The outcomes can be evidenced by: Documenting any educational/awareness raising work in relation to animal welfare, documenting any referrals to the statutory animal welfare enforcement body (District Councils), annual returns showing numbers of stray dogs lifted from the streets, annual returns showing numbers of stray dogs returned to owners/rehomed to new owners, annual returns showing veterinary care, annual financial accounts. No harm is identified from these purposes. The general public of the North West benefit from the promotion of a compassion and concern for animal welfare. The general public of the North West benefit from these purposes by removing stray potentially dangerous dogs from the streets. Dog owners who are reunited with their pets benefit. There is no benefit identified for the purposes.
