Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from the Charity’s purposes, are the improvements to the welfare and education of the local population, and especially to the development, education and welfare of children and young people living within a deprived interface location. Also the improvements to community relations and to peace and reconciliation within

this interface location. These benefits will be demonstrated by evaluations of outcomes and impact and other feedback from users of the facilities and services, local surveys and statistics such as number of incidents at local interfaces and perceptions of public safety, and annual trustee report and accounts. There is no harm arising from any of these purposes. The beneficiaries are the inhabitants of Cliftonville, Lower Shankill and Lower Oldpark within North Belfast and their environs of Belfast. The Trust will employ staff but this will be an incidental and necessary consequence of the pursuit of its charitable purposes.

What your organisation does

The Charity is a cross community/ cross interface charity which is set up to manage facilities and services at Girdwood Community Hub, a new shared community and leisure facility at an interface within North Belfast, building on the peace building and good relations work undertaken in the locality by partner organisations over a number of years.

The Charity will operate The Youth Space, a youth facility, on a cross community/ cross interface basis and also provide detached youth work within the locality. The shared Youth Space will provide youth drop-in and support and operate peace and reconciliation projects, good relations, and peace and conflict training and events. It will also undertake other initiatives which build cross community/ cross interface relationships including shared cultural and historical projects, shared arts and crafts, sport and other leisure activities. While the Trust will initially be youth focused in its activities, overtime it intends to develop and potentially take over the management of further amenities and services for the benefit of the public within this interface location.
