1. Advancement of Education – 80% of the annual funding will be directed towards projects supporting job creation, skills development and education. The direct benefits will be the creation of employment, training and work experience opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged adults and consequently a reduction in poverty,
unemployment and hardship. Another direct benefit will be the enhanced knowledge and transferable skills of those individuals benefitting from Gallaher Trust Awards. The wider benefits will be the improvement of community life in Ballymena and its environs by virtue of the development of the skills of members of the public and thereby their quality of life and participation in society and the advancement of knowledge regarding workplace health and safety resulting in safer workplaces. 2. Relief of those in need by reason of financial hardship or other disadvantage – 20% of the annual funding will be directed towards projects supporting disadvantaged adults including, by way of example only, to organisations supporting domestic violence victims or providing confidential telephone support to those suffering from emotional distress or suicidal thoughts. The direct benefits of this purpose will be the support provided to such disadvantaged adults and the wider benefit will be the improvement of community life in Ballymena and its environs. 3. Other Charitable Purposes (Promotion of Industry and Commerce) - 80% of the annual funding will be directed towards projects supporting job creation, skills development and education. As such the charity has the purpose of promoting industry and commerce for the public benefit. The direct benefits flowing from this purpose will be the creation of employment, training and work experience opportunities for adults in socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Ballymena and its environs. Please see the attached "The Gallaher Trust - Status Report, 22 March 2017" for further details. The benefits from the above purposes will be analysed and demonstrated through: • collection and analysis of impact data; • analysis and regular reporting of progress against impact KPI’s (to be set at the commencement of each project); • regular reporting of the outcome of the granting of Gallaher Trust Awards and resulting charitable activities and financial performance in annual reports and report to grant funders (e.g. see further Schedule 7 paragraph 4 of the Trust Deed which requires regular reporting by the Trustee to the Protector of the Trust and to Gallaher Limited); • records kept by various agencies of the number of jobs and work experience opportunities created as a result of Gallaher Trust Awards; • records kept by further education institutions of the numbers of individuals successfully completing training/further education courses as a result of Gallaher Trust Awards; • surveys of living standards in Ballymena and its environs; and • feedback from the public. No harm arises from the purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public in Ballymena and its environs. 80% of the annual funding will be directed towards projects supporting job creation, skills development and education and 20% will be directed towards projects supporting disadvantaged adults. The focus of the Trust is to advance, support and educate, for the public benefit, disadvantaged adults and local businesses in Ballymena or businesses located elsewhere but whose work will benefit Ballymena and its environs. Advancement of Education - Some private benefit may be obtained by further education institutions by virtue of the fact that an increased number of individuals may register for their vocational/further education courses following the grant of Gallaher Trust Awards to organisations or individuals. The Gallaher Trust will carry out its purposes (as stated at Clause 5.1 of the Trust Deed dated 1 November 2016) by seeking, considering and granting applications for "Gallaher Trust Awards", being awards aligned to the charitable purposes described above. Please see the attached "The Gallaher Trust - Status Report, 22 March 2017" for further
details. Gallaher Trust Awards are to be made available only to formally constituted groups or organisations which operate on a not-for-profit or charitable basis, with the exception that awards may be made to individuals for the purpose of supporting the further education of adults in Ballymena and its environs including but not limited to those studying at further education institutions in Northern Ireland. Once such applications have been duly considered by the Trustees and the Trustees are in agreement that the purposes of such applications for awards meet the charitable purposes for which the Trust was established, the Trustees will grant such awards in order to achieve the charitable purposes of the Trust.
