The direct benefits which flow from the prevention or relief of sickness is: that children and young people will be taught how to practice mindfulness so that they can protect their own mental health and wellbeing. By giving the children and young people coping strategies at an early age to deal with emotional stress, they should be better able
to deal with life’s pressures as they mature. That by supporting charities that work for the relief of sickness, their beneficiaries will have access to essential services in their time of need. We are working with local schools, and those that have participated already report that the children and young people enjoyed the programme. It is also anticipated that early intervention will lead to less depression among young people. It will be evidenced by the number of children and young people that participate in the programmes. The charities that we financially support will provide feedback to us on what the money will be spent on and how it helps their beneficiaries. The trustees will decide which charities to support financially. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The beneficiaries of the mindfulness programme will be children and young people in the first instance, but we may broaden this programme to others in the future. The beneficiaries who will benefit from other charities, which the trustees choose to support, will be those who are suffering from serious illnesses and need services. The trustees would also like to be able to support individuals who are in need of medical treatment but are not able to avail of it via the NHS. There is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes .

Gemma Mc Hale was killed in a road traffic accident in May 2012. The Gemma Mc Hale Foundation will support a mindfulness programme in the local primary schools whereby a facilitator will go into the schools and deliver the programme. The Mc Hale family had this programme delivered in 4 schools last year and the feedback and evaluations have been
very positive. The Trustees will decide what other charities the Foundation will offer financial assistance to.
