Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from our purposes are: Purpose (a): activities offer support and promote community development and cohesion with the majority of the participants drawn from the wider Hillsborough area meeting, taking part in activities and building relationships. Purpose (b): activities offer recreation and leisure time

opportunities which directly bring health and social benefits. Purpose (c): activities promote physical well-being and are attended by groups ranging from young children across the age spectrum to people in their seventies and beyond, meeting the needs of those of different ages and those who have ill health. Purpose (d): activities increase education of the participants and promote arts and culture. Purpose (e): activities promote participation in healthy recreation meeting the needs of young and older groups. Purpose (f): to date regular bookings have not been made by any social enterprises but the facility is there for the future. Purpose (g): activities help people to meet, make new connections and support each other, and wider community development. Purpose (h): the inhabitants of Hillsborough have access to a community centre which is open to all, facilitating activities to help enrich their leisure time that otherwise would not be available. These benefits can be evidenced by feedback from the users of the hall. The purpose of Hillsborough Scout & Community Hall Group is beneficial and there is no harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are all the inhabitants of the Hillsborough area and its environs as it is open to all who require it. Some private benefit is obtained by individuals or organisations who hire the hall to run classes. However, the rent is charged on an arms length basis, is ancillary to the main purpose and is greatly outweighed by the gains in public benefit.
