Public benefits

Local artists and students of craft, applied art and design are provided with support to develop their professional practice; high artistic standards are supported for the public benefit. The public are provided with opportunities to view and appreciate objects of artistic merit through a gallery and exhibitions. Artists and the public are educated

concerning craft, applied arts and design; information is disseminated amongst artists, who are provided with opportunities also to collaborate and learn from each other's practice, and the public have a better understanding of the processes involved in producing artistic pieces. Monitoring and evaluation records are kept and also feedback from beneficiaries. Through reports of the Trustees to their funders and members. No harm The general public and artists and students of craft, applied arts and design within Northern Ireland Artists are provided with a mechanism to sell craft and art works through the exhibition and shop space operated by Craft NI, however only individual artists who apply and whose work is considered of sufficient artistic merit may exhibit and offer work for sale. The benefit is a necessary consequence of the organisation's primary charitable purposes to promote excellence in and public appreciation of craft, applied arts and design and encourage high professional practice in these fields.

What your organisation does

Craft NI is an incorporated association. Craft NI is funded by the Arts Council to promote high standards of craft, applied arts and design amongst artists for the public benefit, to advance education in craft, applied arts and design and promote appreciation of these arts amongst the public. We do this through a number of activities: We operate

Craft NI Gallery a dedicated gallery, shop and exhibition space for craft, applied arts and design, which operates a programme of exhibitions open to the public and is a resource for artists and students, and houses an archive of books and resources for students and artists. Craft NI also promotes high artistic standards amongst local artists and makers, and educates through seminars and talks. Its forum meetings and e-bulletins provides opportunities for networking and information sharing and support amongst artists. Craft NI organises exhibitions and events offering opportunities for audiences in Northern Ireland to experience and view and appreciate high quality craft, applied art and design and opportunities for audiences of all ages to participate in craft and the applied arts and design and to appreciate the processes involved.

The company’s objects (“Objects”) are specifically restricted to the following: To promote the development of craft, applied art and design for the benefit of the public by, in particular but not exclusively: (a) increasing public awareness, education and appreciation of craft, applied art and design through the display, exhibition, demonstration and promotion of craft, applied art and design; (b) promoting high standards of craft, applied art and design by supporting artist/designer/makers and students through educational workshops, information, events, networking, representation and by any other means as the directors shall consider appropriate.
