Public benefits

The public benefits that flow from purpose (1) are: (i) an enhanced awareness and knowledge among the public of all aspects of art, including contemporary visual arts and crafts, and creative processes; (ii) a heightened sense of fulfilment, well-being and aesthetic appreciation arising from opportunities to experience and participate in the

arts; (iii) heightened confidence, purpose, creative capacity and professional development among new and emerging artists; (iv) the development of creative ideas and technical processes, the sharing of skills and the emergence of collaborative artistic projects. The public benefits that flow from purpose (2) are: (i) increased opportunities to access the arts; (ii) enhanced quality of life and sense of wellbeing through engagement with and participation in creative and enriching artistic activities and events, particularly among marginalised groups in society; (iii) renewed enthusiasm for and belief in the arts as a means of expression and fulfilment; (iv) a greater sense among the beneficiaries of more fulfilled and purposeful lives, resulting in a safer and more stable and cohesive communities and the development of a shared and vibrant society; (v) increased effectiveness of community and voluntary organisations that access the facilities and support on offer, resulting in enhanced outcomes and service delivery and, consequently, an improved quality of life for those who benefit from their work. These benefits are evidenced by the feedback and surveys (one example of which being the work we have undertaken with Audiences NI) we regularly gather from visitors, artists and residents, and our continued support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the local City Council. The trustees agree that there is no foreseen harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the general public including residents of and visitors to Lisburn and Castlereagh, plus the professional artists whose work is displayed in the Gallery. The trustees agree that there is no foreseen private benefit flowing from this purpose.

What your organisation does

We are a visual arts and crafts space, presenting and commissioning a programme of exhibitions and arts activity based in The Linen Rooms in the heart of the Lisburn and Castlereagh city area, Northern Ireland. Our programme encourages participation and engagement with local and international artists, promoting visual art, contemporary craft and a

variety of art forms, therefore enriching the experience for the general public, residents, visitors and professional practitioners alike.

Charitable purposes

The Charity’s objects (“Objects”) are specifically restricted to the following: (1) To advance the arts, including contemporary visual arts and crafts, for the benefit of the public in the Lisburn and Castlereagh area and its environs in Northern Ireland (hereinafter called the “area of benefit”) and in particular: (a) to advance the education of the public in the arts including contemporary arts and crafts, and to encourage appreciation for and participation in all forms of the arts by any charitable means the directors see fit; (b) to co-ordinate the provision of advice, support, training and mentoring and provision of facilities for the purpose of the encouragement and stimulation of those falling within the creative sector and community arts sector, by any charitable means the directors see fit. (2) To promote community development and encourage community spirit and civic pride by organising or facilitating provision of activities and or space to support delivery of arts, cultural, tourism, recreational, well-being, and other initiatives that support community integration and stimulation of artistic creativity in the area of benefit.
