Public benefits

Children and families in necessitous circumstances are assisted, and poverty is relieved. Families have sufficient resources so that children's welfare does not unduly suffer due to bereavement, sickness, or other causes of poverty /financial hardship , and the care and development of the children concerned is not compromised. The benefits can

be demonstrated from feedback from grant recipients and supporting organisations. Through evaluations of grant provision, and the annual accounts and report of the trustees. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The charity's beneficiaries are the Children and families of members/ former members of the Loyal Orange Institution of Ireland and Association of Loyal Orange women of Ireland who are in necessitous circumstances Individuals receiving grants only benefit personally to the extent that it relieves their poverty and hardship. The Society does share costs with the Loyal Orange institution of Ireland for use of staff and facilities, not a private benefit as such, though it may indirectly contribute towards the salaries of staff members, but only to the extent that the arrangement is value for money, necessary and in the interests of the Society in order for it to conduct its activities.

What your organisation does

The Society provides grants to relieve poverty, specifically to relieve orphans of members of the orange institutions of Ireland and the children and families of members of these institutions in necessitous circumstances, and in cases of need/ financial hardship and where a child is orphaned, loses a parent or where the parent is no longer

able to care for the child, but is cared for by a grand parent. The Society intends to means test applicant families referred to it for assistance, and where eligibility criteria are met, provide a quarterly financial grant while the child remains in full time education. The grant will be periodically reassessed to ensure that there is a continuing need. We also provide emergency and one off payments to relieve financial hardship. This includes sudden hardship relating to the death of a family member and meeting of funeral costs for example. In cases of financial hardship, and where this relates to the sickness / disability of a dependant child, we also will occasionally meet the costs of family members visiting a sick child in hospital or provide a one off grant towards specialist mobility equipment for a child who is disabled, where this is required and beyond the means of the family concerned.
