Public benefits

The benefits flowing from the purposes of Lough Neagh Partnership are as follows: Lough Neagh and its environs have now got a management body representative of all of the individuals and agencies with an interest in Lough Neagh and its environs to ensure that this area of natural beauty and important ecological environmental and social benefit to

Northern Ireland as a whole will be safe guarded, protected and managed in a sustainable way. It will also be of benefit to the public to people living close to the Lough and its environs, to users of the Lough and people having land adjacent to it. They will benefit because the rural regeneration of this area will be promoted, developed, managed and marketed and the natural and built environment and heritage will be protected, conserved, sustained, enhanced for the appreciation of both local people and tourists from all over the world who wish to benefit from the social recreational and commercial opportunities that the Lough provides. The benefits will be demonstrated by the number of projects which the Partnership engages with successfully. The numbers of people utilising the activities for tourism that will be managed by the Partnership, the feedback which will be obtained by both the community/voluntary/statutory sectors and the numbers of volunteers recruited to the environmental projects to be undertaken. The benefits will also be demonstrated through the monitoring forms and evaluation forms linked to the projects that the Partnership engages with. The Partnership already has to report back to all those funders who support the work of the organisation. So the benefits will be clear, documented and available for scrutiny. There is no harm arising from any of the activities undertaken by the Lough Neagh Partnership Ltd. The Charity has a range of beneficiaries. The general public/local Councils benefits because the Lough and its environs are being protected. Community organisations benefit the Partnership distributes grants to promote rural regeneration. Local schools benefit because the Partnership through its volunteering activities will engage with them directly. Users of the Lough either for leisure or for business will benefit from the fact that it is now being sustainably and effectively managed. The statutory agencies benefit because tourists will be attracted to the region as a result of the activities of the Partnership. Local land owners benefit because they now have a voice directly on the management committee. Local sportsmen using the Lough benefit because of their involvement within the management team. There is no private benefit except for the wages paid to the Officers involved in the day to day work of the Partnership without whom the work could not be carried out.

What your organisation does

The Lough Neagh Partnership is a partnership of statutory/voluntary and business interest linked to the local community sector with input from those who use the Lough for recreation, those who are committed to the environmental sustainability of the Lough itself, the wetlands region surrounding the Lough and all the associated waterways and low

lying hinterland. We carry out our work with the support of local Councils, Government bodies such as NIEA, the Heritage Lottery Fund and any other funders with an interest in the Companies objects. We have developed and continue to develop a Landscape Partnership Scheme, which focuses on the natural, built and cultural heritage on the entire Lough Neagh landscape. The main elements of these integrated projects relate to conserving remnants of the natural heritage and unlocking the rich archaeological heritage and celebrating the rich cultural folklore and local lough shore traditions. We have committed to studies of archaeological excavations in areas of interests within the area of benefit as well as the development of a Lough Neagh heritage trail. We are involved in projects to raise awareness of invasive alien species and the protection or rare breeds of fish and bird life alongside the protection of rare plant life within the area of benefit. We have encouraged the development of the skills of local tourism businesses by providing information workshops and digital business courses and have marketed the area through e-zines, school competitions and food festivals which have already attracted more than 2500 visitors. We create new opportunities to get more people involved in the protection and enhancement of the Lough and also promote the education and training of volunteers with an interest in the many projects associated with the objects of the Partnership. We endeavor to have a more effective management structure. We encourage more effective rural regeneration supporting communities by developing funds and grants.
