What your organisation does

Politics Plus develop and deliver a range of highly successful programmes. These include stand-alone training sessions on topics such as Scrutiny of Legislation and Effective Questioning, as well as more intensive courses, including our innovative Political Leadership Programme. In addition, Politics Plus have built up a register of expert advisers

who have been carefully selected to work on a one-to-one basis with Members and elected representatives as part of the Experts in Residence Programme. In a bid to fulfil another of our core objectives, strengthening the role of women, Politics Plus have developed and launched various programmes targeted at redressing the gender imbalance in political and public life, including the Women in Politics Leadership Programme, which came to a close in June 2015. We held a Young Female Leaders Academy in October 2015, the aim of which was to inspire young women to explore careers in politics and public life. In addition, the first Women in Public Life Programme, targeted senior level women in civil service and third sector, to ensure they were equipped with the skills for moving forward in their career, and completed in June 2016. Due to the success of the initial programme, Politics Plus have been in a position to roll out another programme which began in March 2016. Furthermore, Politics Plus established the Speaker’s Reference Group on a Gender Sensitive Assembly, alongside the Speaker’s Office, and also established the ground-breaking Northern Ireland Assembly Women’s Parliamentary Caucus. These initiatives, alongside the Think Tanks, support and progress the role of women when they take up their seats as parliamentarians. In order to strengthen the role of young people within the political process, and to continue inspiring the next generation of political leaders, we provide support to the Northern Ireland Members of the UK Youth Parliament in conjunction with the British Council.
