Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from purpose 1 include increased cultural awareness and understanding achieved by the delivery of events, tuition classes, talks and workshops. The resulting increased knowledge and confidence in identity allows for future positive engagement with other cultures and communities. The direct benefits flowing from

purpose 2 include increased knowledge, awareness and confidence in the local community, a reduction in social isolation. Benefits also include increased capacity and volunteering within the group and inspiring civic values and community activity within the Fountain area. The benefits from purpose 1 are demonstrated through feedback from beneficiaries and attendees at our events, tuition classes, talks and workshops using: evaluation forms, surveys, verbal feedback, and evaluation of our activities. The benefits from purpose 2 are demonstrated by positive feed-back received from users of the services and those who attend the events and activities. It is also demonstrated by continued growth in community involvement by local people and increased community pride, confidence and volunteering and volunteering opportunities. Further benefit associated with this purpose is an increased engagement with other groups and statutory agencies, especially by groups who may not otherwise engage in mainstream community development initiatives. There is no identifiable harm flowing from any of the above purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are primarily the inhabitants of the Fountain Estate and its surrounding environs within Derry City and Strabane District Council area. A private benefit to Trustees may arise from the on-going services and programmes of arts, cultural, and educational activities: information, training, events, and networking visits. Through this, Trustees gain services, cultural awareness, cultural activities, information, skills, and experience which are transferable to other settings, and which may benefit their own community group or area but this is incidental & necessary to carry out the work to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

The group is a partnership of cultural organisations that have been involved in many varied cultural and educational projects including securing a Cultural Hub within the Fountain Estate, which now provides a base for local groups, including themselves, to meet and hold their activities. The group have co-operated with other groups to deliver

music, dance, drama and other creative arts tuition. The wide range of activities appeals to the entire community and all age groups, meaning people can come together to share mutual interests and learning in a safe, inviting environment and build relationships which are carried over into community life. In developing their cultural activity programmes the group endeavour to address needs identified by the community and involve everyone, especially people from the local communities who are at increased risk of social isolation. There is an increased sense of community pride and confidence within the Fountain and surrounding areas, with more people coming forward all the time to take part in activities.
