Public benefits
Naíscoil an Bheanna Boirche provides pre-school education for eligible children (i.e. 3-4 years old) living in the Castlewellan area. The Naíscoil delivers the full pre-school curriculum through the medium of Irish. PEAGS and privately funded places are available. The Naíscoil provides a good foundation for proceeding into either Irish of English
medium primary school education. Children attending Naíscoil Bheanna Boirche have the benefit of gaining from second language acquisition at a beneficial age for neural development. The Naíscoil acts as a feeder nursery to Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche. Currently up to one third of children attending the Naíscoil as PEAGs opt to progress into full time Irish medium primary education. Naíscoil Bheanna Boirche is a non-denominational pre-school and it welcomes all faiths and backgrounds. Parents with no knowledge of Irish language benefit from an introduction to the language. Benefits are demonstrated by very positive Social Services Early Years inspections and parent feedback surveys. In addition, Naíscoil Bheanna Boirche has experienced year-on-year growth so that 31 PAEGS currently attend the Naíscoil. We can identify no harm arising from the purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are children of under statutory school age and their families. A private benefit may be obtained by trustees who may may gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. The only other private benefit is in the provision of employment to Naíscoil Bheanna Boirche staff. It is not considered that this presents any harm from the purposes of the organisation.
