Public benefits

The public benefits that flow from purpose (1) are: (i) increased efficiency and effectiveness of community and voluntary organisations, resulting in enhanced outcomes and service delivery and, consequently an improved quality of life for those who benefit from the work of these organisations; (ii) opportunities to engage in social activities

that bring people together and an increased sense of well-being and fulfilment; (iii) enhanced accessibility to free or affordable facilities and amenities; (iv) increased engagement in civic society and the local community; The public benefits that flows from purpose (2) are: (i) a reduction in social isolation, stress and anxiety and a consequent improvement in health, emotional well-being and resilience and a general improvement in the quality of life of the beneficiaries; (ii) enhanced inclusion and access to social, cultural and educational experiences, particularly among marginalised groups in society; The public benefits that flow from purpose (3) are: (i) the preservation of Derrygonnelly Orange Hall’s individual character for the aesthetic and intellectual enjoyment of current and future generations and the development of a sentiment of connectness and continuation over the generations; (ii) enhanced knowledge about the social and cultural history of the area of benefit, promoting interest in the past, present and future of that community; (iii) increased opportunities for the public to access the arts as a result of an extended range of arts and cultural activities and events taking place; (iv) enhanced quality of life and sense of well-being through engagement with and participation in creative artistic events and activities; (v) renewed enthusiasm for and belief in the arts as a means of expression and fulfilment; (vi) raised awareness and understanding of, and empathy with, people from other religions, ethnic minorities, cultures and beliefs, leading to greater social cohesion and reduction in tension and conflict;(vii) the cultivation of a sentiment in favour of peaceful community relations. For purpose (1), the beneficiaries are the general public. For purpose (2), the beneficiaries are those in need, particularly those who lack access to services or experience social isolation. For purpose (3), the beneficiaries are the general public. The benefits identified can be demonstrated by timetables and photographs to record such benefits. No harm arises from any of the purposes of Sillees River Social and Cultural Society

Charitable purposes

The Charity’s objects (‘the Objects’) are to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the greater Derrygonnelly area and its environs (the “area of benefit”), without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, race, ethnicity or political, religious or other opinion, and in particular:- (1) To promote community development and citizenship by all or any of the following means: (i) provide facilities for and organise community and family events in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure-time occupations with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants; (ii) provide facilities, amenities and support to community and voluntary groups and organisations; (iii) advance active citizenship and volunteering in the community; (iv) foster a sense of community by encouraging and celebrating a sense of place, civic pride and an appreciation of all aspects of local heritage. (2) Relieve those in need by reason of youth, age or other disadvantage by making available facilities and resources that will enable those who lack access to services or experience social isolation to participate in recreational, social, cultural, educational and other types of activities and events. (3) The advancement of heritage, culture and the arts by: (i) preserving, restoring, maintaining and improving, for the public benefit, Derrygonnelly Orange Hall, a Grade B listed building of historical, cultural and architectural interest; (ii) acquiring, preserving, interpreting and displaying documents, books, photographs, maps, oral recordings, artefacts and other items relating to Derrygonnelly Orange Hall and the social and cultural history of the area of benefit, thereby promoting interest in the past, present and future of that community; (iii) carry out research into the social, cultural, religious, political and economic history of the area of benefit and disseminate the findings of such research; (iv) either alone or in association with other organisations or agencies, organise and present artistic activities and events, festivals and performances; (v) promote and enhance awareness and understanding, and encourage acceptance of, all indigenous customs, traditions, beliefs and artistic expression in the area of benefit, in particular those relating to the Ulster Scots culture which is strongly represented in the area of benefit.
