The benefits flowing from purpose (1) are: the creation of self-employment opportunities for people living in economically and socially deprived areas thereby reducing unemployment and improving quality of life and consequent improvement in health and well-being; Purpose (2): increased employment opportunities will improve the economic vibrancy of
the area leading to an improved quality of life and settled community; Purpose (3): increased community and voluntary activity helping to improve the local area, enhancing the quality of life and well-being of its residents, and addressing local need; Purpose (4): improving the health and well-being by providing facilities for recreation and exercise and offering a range of classes and schemes to improve fitness. The benefits for purposes (1)- (3) can be demonstrated through records held by statutory and other agencies outlining the jobs and work opportunities created, as well as statistics showing the level of self-employment which compensates for the lack of other employed opportunities. Benefits can also evidenced by evaluations undertaken by Funding bodies and through Community audits. The benefits for purpose (4) can be demonstrated from internal records showing the range of grant recipients, their impact and feedback from the community and voluntary organisations assisted. The benefits of purpose (5) can be demonstrated by internal records of the facility usage, particiation levels in the organised classes and schemes and evaluation returns requested by the funders. There is no harm arising from these purposes. General Public Unemployed/low income Vountary and community sector Some private benefit is obtained by the owners of small businesses who rent units on favourable terms, but this is deemed ancillary and incidental to the main purpose and is significantly outweighed by the gains in public benefit.

Workspace offers a range of light industrial units and modern office accommodation for rent to individuals, businesses and community and voluntary organisations on flexible leases at favourable rents. We have sites in Draperstown, Magherafelt and Castledawson. A range of meeting and training rooms are available which are complemented by reception
and other office services. Workspace, through its subsidiary social enterprise businesses, provides a variety of social enterprise programmes aimed at promoting enterprise for individuals and other community and voluntary groups. A small grant scheme is also operated by Workspace whereby community and voluntary groups can apply for small grants to: assist in improving the local area; promote community involvement; enhance the quality of life and well-being of local residents; and to address local need. Workspace provides a recreation centre for use by the local community. It offers a range of facilities including a 3G pitch, three Handball Walls and a four-court sports hall. During the year a variety of exercise classes and summer schemes are offered. During term-time St Colm's High school and other local schools utilise the facilities during the day, with the community using them in the evenings and weekends.
