Public benefits

Direct Benefits from Mother Goose & Jack Horner Playgroup, Ballycastle. The beneficiaries are children and their parents, in the area. Many are single parents, and some live in isolated areas. Through our regular events, eg Fashion Show, coffee mornings, fund-raising, etc, we make it possible for parents to meet and socialise. We adhere to the

Educational formal Curriculum Guidelines under the headings of Language, Social, Physical, The World around Us, Mathematical and Personal. Our children are learning to be more knowledgeable, and this is achieved through structured and informal play, healthy eating, social skills and manners. Tactile play, using paints, play dough, water and sand encourage fine motor skills. We use the new play equipment recently installed to encourage physical skills, climbing, cycling and games. We encourage inter-generational activities where possible, involving parents and grandparents. We try to stimulate the children’s imaginations through story-telling, drama and music. We are an inclusive group, and welcome children with Special Educational Needs. We regularly liaise with Social Services and Health officials. All of these benefits are demonstrated by our over-subscribed waiting lists and by feedback from parents and inspections, and our Early Years advisor. No harm arises from these benefits. There are also benefits to the trustees and staff through additional training to maintain our high standards, and we currently have several members of staff working towards Level 5 NVQ in Childcare.

What your organisation does

Mother Goose Playgroup operates 5 days a week from 8.45am to 12.45pm.Children from rural, urban and disadvantaged areas attend. We work closely with our Early Years Specialist and carry out regular observations and planning. All activities are planned on a monthly basis covering all areas of learning, these are evaluated by staff to ensure that we

offer positive education to all children who may be at differing levels of learning. At Mother Goose Playgroup we work closely with Sure Start whose 2year old program is largely oversubscribed each year, as a result of this they advise many parents to avail of our services. There is no other provision for this age group in our area. Mother Goose Playgroup is a long established playgroup with long serving experienced members of staff who take great pride in supporting parents and the local community. Our most recent Social Services Inspection highlights the quality of service offered, comments include "Provides an excellent service in the Ballycastle area and all parental views of service demonstrate how valued this service is within the local community .... All children were well motivated and continually stimulated... All staff presented as well experienced, competent and professional practitioners.
