Public benefits
Children receive the opportunity to acquire the Irish Language through Immersion education thus enabling them to develop their ability in the Irish Language in a natural learning environment giving them the gift of bilingualism while the English language curriculum is delivered also. The benefits are demonstrated through the many educational
attainments of pupils and the steady growth of its sector across different educational managing authorities at pre-school, primary and secondary levels and through a variety of support mechanisms to the sector, the Principals’ Forum (Fóram na bPríomhoidí), the “Cnag” newsletter, the annual sectoral conference (Comhdháil Bhliantúil), and Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta’s annual report. The development of Irish-medium education poses no threats or disbenefits to anyone and the sector is open to all sections of the community and the outcomes are children and young people proficient and fluent in both English and Irish languages. The beneficiaries include children from 3 to 19 years of age, communities hosting Irish-medium provision, the cultural life of the region, parents with a higher level of involvement in school life and governance, teachers and community stakeholders. No private benefits derive from the purposes of Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta.
