Public benefits
The direct benefits include that people who are unable to travel to Lourdes without assistance are able to do so. People benefit from 24 hour care and support that is provided to them during the annual pilgrimage. This can help people to better deal with/accept their condition. People can reconnect with their religion. Each year we produce a
programme of ceremonies/activities that people may participate in. Benefit is demonstrated through feedback from assisted pilgrims, their relatives and pilgrims which highlights that people have enjoyed the experience and sometimes make friendships. Some people have returned to regular worship following their experience on our pilgrimage. There is no harm from our purposes. All our nursing and medical staff are on their respective professional body registers. The Chief Medical Officer and Nurse Manager ensures that all medical histories are fully considered and only take those people they are confident they can care for. Our beneficiaries are people who live in the diocese of Dromore and suffer from a medical condition. Private benefit: The Executive uses the professional services of a travel agent and a bus company. It also uses other local companies to purchase necessary items for use by the assisted pilgrims during the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. The Executive always seeks to obtain the best value for money on all its transactions. None of the current members are associated with any of the companies we use.

The Dromore Diocesan Lourdes Executive organises the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. Each parish is allocated a number of assisted pilgrim (sick) places depending on parish population. The Executive has a Chief Medical Officer (whose decision is final) regarding the suitability of the assisted pilgrim to travel. The Executive's Nurse Manager
co-ordinates the medical history of each applicant in conjunction with qualified nursing staff from each parish across the diocese of Dromore.
