Public benefits
The direct benefits for the adults with a learning disability at Edgcumbe TRC are improved self awareness, increased confidence and reduced social isolation. Annual financial support to Edgcumbe Gateway club enables the students to access training and leisure activities on a weekly basis outside day centre hours. The parents who are the carers are
relaxed and happy in the knowledge that their loved one is with their peers and enjoying a normal social life in a safe environment. The activities are hugely looked forward to and very well attended . The adults contribute their opinions and views which are generally very complimentary to a magazine published by the centre. The carers consistently support the group's activities and voluntarily show their appreciation through their membership contributions. Benefits are also identified through Thank You cards the Group receives and by listening to the opinions of the adults and their parents. There is no harm flowing from the purposes. All the students are supervised by trained and experienced staff employed by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust as support workers in Edgcumbe TRC. The beneficiaries are adults with learning disabilities who attend Edgcumbe TRC and their parent carers. The only private benefit flowing from the purposes are that the parents of adults with learning disabilities support and encourage each other and enjoy the contact with the staff at Edgcumbe Training and Resource Centre . This is incidental to the main purpose.
