Public benefits

The direct benefits which flows from this purpose includes the reduction in social isolation of our beneficiaries where they are provided with access to a club/center where they can meet, take part in activities and communicate in their own language. Deaf people are able to participate in community events and can articulate their experience and

needs to the wider public thus breaking down the barriers that exists between deaf and hearing people in the every day aspects of their lives. By providing information, advice and guidance on topics such as welfare, housing, employment etc we will be relieving the frustration and stress. Through advocacy and engagement with statutory bodies we can articulate the needs of deaf people in our area of benefit and can contribute to policy change. All of the above leads to an increase in the confidence and self-esteem and contributes to an improvement in their mental wellbeing The benefits can be demonstrated through the numbers of deaf / hard of hearing people attending the club, number of social events attended and evaluations of our services by the beneficiaries, government agencies or the public and feedback received directly. It will also be evidenced by helping the beneficiaries to understand correspondence, completing forms, signposting and referrals to other services. No harms arise from the purposes The charity’s beneficiaries are deaf / hard of hearing people living in the Newry & Mourne area. A private benefit flowing from this purpose may occur were a Trustee gains skills and experience (through training / education) which are transferrable to other settings. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
