Public benefits

DDA provide facilities which are made available for use by local community and surrounding areas in the interest of social welfare and improving educational outcomes. DDA maintain a small building which it leases for a nominal rent to two voluntary childcare services – a playgroup and an afterschools club. The direct benefits which flow from the

above purpose are improved outcomes for all children who attend the playgroup – learning, social skills, physical and emotional wellbeing and preparation for their transition to primary school education. Re the After schools Club – the direct beneficiaries include the attending children who are provided with a safe, friendly, educational and fun environment; their parents /guardians who have excellent childcare for a minimum cost while they also benefit from being able to go out to work or training.; the 5 staff members benefit from part time employment locally; the local school and community also benefit from these 2 childcare services being provided locally. The large hall is available to a wide range of groups to carry out their activities locally such as the women’s group, bowling club, junior and senior youth clubs, GAA, movers and groovers dance club etc; a wide range of groups use the hall for meetings, providing information evenings, organising dances etc; local families and community groups use the hall for birthday parties, after funeral refreshments, fundraisers etc. All above users are direct beneficiaries of this local community facility. DDA organise community activities throughout the year, Santa arriving at Christmas, a bazzar, the Christmas tree/lights switch on, Easter Bunny Hunt, treasure hunt during the festival etc and we use the hall to operate from and provide refreshments for children and their parents. The 2 halls provide huge public benefit to a wide range of people of all ages and from all backgrounds. DDA established a community allotment garden including raised plots for those with disabilities or the elderly and these are free to all those who wish to avail of a plot – users are all direct beneficiaries as there are health, social and educational benefits to gardening – others while not gardening do visit the garden to chat to their neighbours as it is like a focal meeting point during the summer months. DDA lobbied Fermanagh Council to provide a MUGA and this was completed recently and is for use by whoever wishes to play outdoors games there – social and health benefits for all users. The Community Garden and the MUGA both enhance the overall look of the village and both turned wasteground into community facilities. DDA organises foresworks display at Halloween and street dance, Christmas activites for children, a 5 day summer festival with a wide range of activities for all ages culminating in a family fun day, a annual social evening for all senior citizens where they can spend an evening together with food, entertainment and music – senior citizen’s are direct beneficiaries as are their families and carers, reducing social isolation in what is a very rural area. All that DDA does and has done has a public benefit now and for years to come. NISRA ranked Donagh Super Output area in the 10% most deprived area as regards the Access to Services Domain so delivering services locally is of paramount importance. The only possible private benefit which flows from the purpose is the skills, training and knowledge which our volunteers gain from their involvement as DDA committee members. While such skills etc may be a benefit to them in another area or setting, it is incidental and necessary to ensure that DDA delivers on it’s purposes, aims and objectives.

What your organisation does

Donagh Development Association was established in 1991 to improve the lives of the people in and around the village. This work is managed by a voluntary committee of local people who have an interest in community development. It is a member of the Erne East Community Partnership which is an umbrella group representing all community and voluntary

groups from both sides of the community in Erne East. It's office is based in the Millennium Hall which was anew build facility opened in 2000. Donagh Development Association owns, maintains and manages the Millennium Hall and a smaller hall alongside which is currently leased to two childcare services. The Association takes booking for the hall from a wide range of organisations and also facilitates others in the hall free of charge. It uses the hall to organise activities such as Santa's Grotto at Christmas and refreshments at Halloween and other seasonal events. The hall is also used for committee meetings and fundraisers. DDA also established a community allotment garden in 2008 to facilitate those who have no outdoor garden area or who simply want to garden communally where they can learn from each other and keep alive the age old tradition of 'growing your own'. DDA also works closely with statutory agencies such as Transport NI, NIHE, NIW, River's Agency, Local Council, PSNI etc and lobby for improved facilities in the village and surrounding areas. It also engages closely with local inhabitants, deliver periodic newsletters and carry out needs surveys. It accesses funding from Fermanagh and Omagh DC to organise events, festivals etc and takes up all opportunities from funding bodies which will have a benefit to local people. All events, informations etc is posted regularly on our Facepage, in the local parish bulletin and in the community noticeboard of the weekly newspaper.
