Public benefits
The public beneficiaries are children from primary and secondary schools, who, with the encouragement and help of their teachers and parents, (a) read the Syllabus published by DMDFA each October and (b) identify a Class ( or Classes) in which they wish to perform, and (c) submit an appropriate entry form to the organising committee,
and (d) train, rehearse and improve the performance of the specified piece ( i.e. singing, playing an instrument or verse-speaking & drama), and (e) then attend and perform during Festival fortnight ( first 2 weeks of the following March) in front of a professional adjudicator, and (f) finally, receive a “Mark Sheet” from the Adjudicator recording the mark awarded, as well as written comments on the quality of the performance. This annual encouragement to develop talent, improve performances and be professionally assessed by a qualified adjudicator is known to provide a lasting benefit to the child’s education, performance skills and self confidence. This annual 2 week festival regularly attracts around 1,400 entrants and fulfils the purpose of DMDFA as stated in the Constitution.
