Public benefits

Shopmobility Enniskillen meets the public benefit requirement detailed in the Charities Act under the relief of those in need. The main benefit of our service is that it improves independence and helps avoid isolation for our members who have limited mobility, increasing their ability to take part in the local community of Enniskillen. Shopmobility

Enniskillen strives to provide equality of opportunity and social inclusion to all residents and visiting population who have limited or restricted mobility through the provision of Shopmobility. Shopmobility Enniskillen delivers its charitable aims through direct service delivery and aims to assist individuals with limited mobility in gaining access to local shops and services within the town of Enniskillen. Volunteering and active citizenship are at the core of service delivery and provides opportunities for volunteering which promotes the development of skills in individuals resulting in the long term health and wellbeing of the volunteers involved with the Charity. Shopmobility Enniskillen helps people with limited mobility to make Enniskillen town and Co. Fermanagh more accessible. The availability of Shopmobility in Enniskillen addresses a previously unmet need required by people with disabilities and limited mobility. The increasing age population of County Fermanagh highlights the requirement to meet the needs of people aged over 65 who could experience difficulties with limited mobility. Shopmobility ensures these needs are provided for and we are in line with the rest of Northern Ireland in providing the necessary mobility services to residents and visitors alike.

What your organisation does

Shopmobility provides an important link in the transport chain and we address root causes of social and economic inequality for people with limited mobility and disabilities by providing mobility equipment to facilitate easy access in Enniskillen. The service is primarily helpful to local people who would like to get around their own town to go

shopping, visit friends or family or simply get out of the house and be able to get out and about independently. The provision of equipment has many benefits for members and the wider community. It promotes social inclusion. The service also provides respite for carers, by using a mobility scooter, members feel a new sense of independence as they do not have to rely on family and friends to assist them with their mobility needs. Daily hire of the service is free to use and there is no cost for membership. Shopmobility Enniskillen currently has 646 members and this number grows each year.
