Introduction: As a registered Charity the Newcastle Glees Musical Society is committed to demonstrating the benefits its work provides for individuals, communities and the wider public. This statement sets out the aims, mission and strategic objectives of Newcastle Glees Musical Society, outlines the beneficiaries the Society serves and the
impact and benefits of the Society. This document should be read in conjunction with the Society’s Constitution dated 12th February 1991 as amended by special resolution 5th August 2008. Our Aims and Objectives: The overall aim of the Society as set out in its Constitution is to advance the arts, culture, heritage or science particularly by the provision, organisation and arrangement of musical and theatrical performances, concerts and entertainment and to provide education for young people to take part in musical performance. The Society also operates for the prevention or release of poverty by giving financial and practical assistance to those less fortunate. The Society delivers this mission through its strategic objectives which include:- • Musical performance - to advance community development through the advancement of arts, culture, heritage or science by staging annual musical theatre performances and concerts to promote and develop music and drama within and across the Newcastle Community. To promote education by providing workshops for children and young people to enable them to partake in musical performances. • By upkeeping and maintaining the Annesley Hall which is an historical building providing access to the community for high quality arts entertainment. Providing practical and financial assistance to those less fortunate by providing entertainment in local old peoples’ homes and hospices and channelling any surplus funds for the relief or prevention of poverty. • To upkeep and maintain the Annesley Hall as a community based arts venue. • To support and promote the cross community integration within the Newcastle area. Our Beneficiaries: • The Society is dedicated to the advancement of the arts, culture and heritage of the locality and stages public performances open to all members of the public. • The Society encourages membership from all areas on a cross community all ability basis through open auditions. • To encourage and promote young people and to enable them to develop a love and appreciation of music and drama through performance. The Public Benefit we Provide: The Society is committed to the advancement of arts, culture, heritage or science and to the prevention or relief of poverty. • To stage biannual musical performances open to all members of the public celebrating musical theatre. • To providing children and young people with an opportunity to learn stage craft and enhance performance skills leading to increased confidence and enabling participation in the arts. • Enhancing health and wellbeing. • Transforming the lives of individuals contributing to the development of a cohesive and resilient community on a cross community basis. • To encourage active participation by all members of the community in the arts through musical drama. • To providing light entertainment resulting in increased wellbeing for the community. • To enhancing pride in the local community by providing entertainment of the highest standard.. How we Measure the Benefit we Provide: The Society measures the impact of its work in a number of ways primarily in audience feedback following performances and the sense of community wellbeing engendered by musical performance and in upkeeping and maintaining the hall for use by other arts based agencies.

We maintain a Community based hall where we carry out our purposes and to which the public have access. We actively promote equality and diversity as we are a cross community based society to which the public have access through our public performances. In particular our youth programme is open to all sections of the community through open
auditions and we always find a place for anyone to join even if they are not interested in Musical performance, we can provide experience in set design and construction, lighting and sound systems and front of house activities. We are run by Volunteers who give of their time freely to promote the Arts and to enhance the local community.
