Public benefits

The intended beneficiaries are members of the general public living in the Northwest region of Northern Ireland and Ireland. The benefit that flows from advancing the Christian faith and promoting Christian spirituality is to increase understanding and practice of the Christian religion and so to deepen spiritual lives, with ensuing positive

effects on people’s attitudes and actions. By delivering various programmes including Scripture, prayer, reflection processes, meditation, liturgy, the sacraments, training courses for prayer guides and parish liturgy teams, and retreats, participants will deepen their relationship with God, self, other people, society as a whole, and the earth. These benefits are evidenced by positive comments from participants and by the high rate of re-enrolment in further programmes. Feedback and evaluation on the benefits of programmes are received from participants. There are no harms arising from the purposes as participation is voluntary. All who are delivering programmes are trained in the protection of young people and adults at risk. They are subject to background checks and vetting procedures. Thornhill Ministries maintains a website detailing programmes and advising the public on participation. It uses social media to offer frequent, short messages of encouragement and inspiration. The website and social media extend the Ministries' outreach to anyone who accesses them online, without geographical limitation. The benefit achieved through online outreach is evidenced by positive comments, "likes" and "shares". The only private benefits are salaries paid to the office administrator and some programme delivery personnel; benefits are incidental and necessary because the purposes could not be achieved without the input of these employees.

What your organisation does

Our organisation provides retreat experiences for young people in Roman Catholic schools. We train people in the practice of Ignatian Spirituality. We provide guidance in Scripture prayer and ensure supervision of all trained prayer guides. We also provide days of practical training and ongoing refresher courses for liturgical

ministers. Through school retreat work, we raise the awareness in young people of the spiritual and provide an understanding of faith practice. We offer faith support opportunities to provide spiritual nourishment in creative and expressive ways. We offer specific and specialised training to parish communities in respect of worship.
