Public benefits
Ards Boxing Club provides a safe, training environment for young people and adults of the general public to learn a new skill, and to keep fit and active. The Club runs public events for anyone to come along to and watch boxing exhibitions and it is used by other organisations such PIPs to provide a platform for suicide awareness in young people
and young offender rehabilitation programmes or community service. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose of the boxing club is the improvement in health and wellbeing of its members, enhancement of social skills and the general feel of being a part of a community; development of defence skills and controlling aggression. These benefits are evidenced through regular feedback from members and their families and friends. By using the boxing equipment, sparring, taking part in the circuit classes and participating in a boxing match there is the risk that a member may become injured. However, the correct policies are in place to minimise any risks. For example, each session is run by qualified boxing trainers, the correct equipment is used, there is a tidy policy; and therefore any harm is outweighed by the benefits. The charity’s beneficiaries are young people and adults of Newtownards and its surrounding area who have an interest in learning how to box and/ or to use boxing as a method of keeping fit. There are no private benefits flowing from the purpose.
