Public benefits

1. To promote the playing, understanding and appreciation of flute band music in its various forms. The direct benefit which flows from this is that the cultural lives of the general public of Northern Ireland will be enriched with high quality musical performances. This benefit can be evidenced through feedback from the general public and audience

members who have listened to our performances. There is no harm or private benefit. 2. The provision of training for band members by way of regular practices, private and public musical engagements and taking part in contests organised by the North of Ireland Bands Association and the Flute Band Association. The benefit which flows from this is the high standard of musicianship attained by our members, and in particular the accelerated development of novice/young players. This high standard is evidenced through success in band, small ensemble and solo competitions. Young members regularly achieve higher musical grades than their peers who do not study music within a group environment. A private benefit flows from this activity in the form of a minimal payment of expenses to a musical director. No harm is incurred. 3. To provide social interaction for young people in a safe environment. Among the founding ethos of the North of Ireland Bands Association (founded 1907) was to bring classical music and skills to the working class population of Northern Ireland. The direct benefit which flows from this is the provision of an opportunity for any member of the general public to participate in the Arts through music on a regular basis at little or no cost within an area of social deprivation lacking in facilities for social development and interaction of young people. There is no private benefit or harm. 4. To foster good relationships and participation with other musical organisations within the surrounding area. The direct benefit which flows from this is that good relationships are fostered with other musical organisations even though they compete against each other in competition. The band is a member of the North of Ireland Bands Association and the Flute Band Association. The benefit is evidenced though our inclusion of all elements of the community and our policy not to discriminate against gender, age, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. Co-operation with other musical groups can be evidenced through the use of guest players from other local bands. There is no private benefit or harm.
