Public benefits

The benefits of Carrickfergus and District Senior Gateway are that we involve people with a learning disability and provide the opportunity to have friendships and relationships in their local community. It is a leisure opportunity and member led which enables and empowers members to decide which activities they would like to do in the club. The

provision of these facilities enables people with a learning disability to have an improved quality of life. It also provides public benefit to parents and carers as it is an opportunity for rest bite which is an important form of support. The benefits of the club are demonstrated through verbal feedback from people in the community, parents, volunteers and the members themselves. The members thoroughly enjoy attending the leisure opportunity on weekly basis. The club is aimed specifically for adults with a learning disability. The volunteers at the club receive private benefit in the form of training to ensure they are equipped to fulfil their role and they also gain experience which they can use to apply for jobs.
