Public benefits

The benefits which flow from this purpose include allowing older dependant adults to remain living at home with dignity whilst their varying needs of personal care, medication and meal provision are undertaken in a quality and flexible manner. A further benefit is the tailored support and training provided to family members to enable them to

carry out their caring role safely and sensitively. The benefits are demonstrated by an increase the length of time a person is able to remain at home and by the ability for hospitals to discharge patients whilst the patients still has needs to be cared for as a care package is provided by Extra Care. There is a marginal risk of harm if the care provided by Extra Care is not of the required quality however the risk of this is mitigated by strict recruitment procedures, quality training in compliance with NISCC and RQIA standards and the implementation of policies and procedures as monitored and reviewed by management. With regards to benefit the public benefit is the ability for people to remain in their own homes longer which is preferable to both them and their families. There is also a public benefit of hospitals being able to release patients earlier and therefore free hospital beds. The beneficiaries are directly the person receiving the care and their families and indirectly the wider community in terms of hospital facilities.
