Castlerock Community Association is an organisation that provides members of the local community and visitors, with an Information Centre that provides services for social provision, local and surrounding area tourist information and organisation of events that cater across a range of activities without discrimination of age, sex, nationality,
religious preference, disability, social economic circumstances and also in the interests of community wellbeing. The direct benefits which flow from our purpose include: increased community cohesion; decreased social isolation; increased community spirit and community relations; increased access to culture, arts and heritage leading to richness of experience of Castlerock and surrounding area; increased education and knowledge through access to information and advice on subjects as diverse as social welfare through to local history; enhanced health and wellbeing through access to facilities for healthy recreation and leisure; rehabilitation into the community of ex-offenders who work on our Village Beautiful project. The benefit from our purposes is demonstrated through feedback from beneficiaries and number of people using the services; the completion of a log detailing the services beneficiaries have used in the Information Centre. Additional evidence is measured through feedback forms, records of our events/activities and a community survey. The beneficiaries are the general public within Castlerock/surrounding areas and indeed visitors from the rest of the U.K. and across the world. An incidental benefit is the building of confidence and skills within the Volunteer Team who staff the Information Centre and members of the Management Committee. A private benefit that arises is when training is provided for areas such as Child Protection. This is a transferable skill which could lead to employment opportunities for a Volunteer. However without this training, the Association could not deliver on its public benefit to cater for a range of activities across all age groups. No harm arises from the delivery of our public benefit as all of our activities are planned and risk assessed with all necessary insurances, checks and policies being adhered to under the supervision of the Management Committee.
