Regenerate is a community development group in Portadown working to improve life for citizens of the town and surrounding areas. We understand people are the most valuable resource we have and are building community by building people. Therefore the benefit flowing from purpose one (Promote for the public benefit urban and rural regeneration in
areas of social and economic deprivation in Portadown and its environs.) Are an increased understanding in the community of the value of education and support networks in place to help young people embrace and achieve their potential, evidenced by an increase in academic results at GCSE level. Building from within community Regenerate are empowering and supporting citizens by promoting social enterprise to create employment opportunities to reverse economic decline by equipping citizens through education, and training to be best placed to secure employment aiding recovery and reducing deprivation. This can be evidenced by a reduction in local unemployment figures and information based on the Nobel scale of deprivation. This purpose does not lead to any harm. The beneficiaries are young people in education and adults seeking employment or enhanced skills to further employment opportunities. The benefits flowing from purpose two (To advance community development and active citizenship). Are improved communities and opportunities for citizens to become involved in various projects to improve their lives and communities. Other community groups will benefit from strategic and practical help with support provided to help their groups achieve better, but also create networks to communicate and share information. The sum of benefit flowing from this purpose is to create a collective and enhance relationships between groups, the communities they serve and also their statutory partners. This purpose will be evidenced by increased numbers of volunteers for groups and projects. And groups working together in a strategic fashion to accelerate the pace of development in the form of community forums. This purpose does not lead to any harm. The beneficiaries are the citizens of Portadown and its environs. The benefits flowing from purpose three (Promote social cohesion, religious and racial harmony and equality and diversity in the area of benefit) The benefits flowing from this purpose are a community where people have freedom of movement, enjoying a safe community where communities are united and equality and diversity respected. Regenerate operates a community base in Rectory Park Portadown. The base is used as an administration and training hub for Regenerate and also a community space for community to use. We deliver a number of projects under a programme called Community Connections. Regenerate are working to build the capacity of communities and create a collective
voice to develop local solutions to local issues. By building the capacity of communities we mean empowering people to understand their value, worth and skill base. To help and assist people to create projects to meet the need of their community. Regenerate published a flag protocol document in May 2015 securing agreement around flying flags in the area, other aspects of the programme are working around bonfires and interfaces to help normalise these contentious issues.Regenerate are also supporting community groups and communities to ensure citizens voices are heard and included in decisions that effect their lives. The group is also developing methods to change a mindset regarding eduction and creating support projects to improve the educational attainment levels of young people.
