Public benefits

The BSSoTM meets two of the charitable purposes. The advancement of Education and of the arts and culture. The benefit that flows from holding the SS will primarily be in the improvement in the musical ability, and a better understanding and appreciation of traditional music ,and dance, of those pupils who participate in the classes and workshops

which are the core of this project. Benefits will be demonstrated through qualitative assessments, feedback from participants and teachers, evidenced in pupils participation in the concerts, demonstrations, recitals and sessions and reports to funders. The other benefit will be in the advancement of arts and culture and in particular the traditional arts within the Belfast area. The 5 day Traditional Music Summer School will provide access for engagement in traditional music and dance within Belfast learning and playing traditional music where such high quality opportunities are currently lacking. In March 2015 , the Arts Council of NI presented an “Audit of the Traditional Music Sector in NI “. In relation to the Traditional Music Performance Infrastructure it stated – “it is striking that there is no Traditional Music Summer School in the NI " BSS as a truly cross community project will provide opportunities for meaningful interaction, via traditional music, between cultural traditions. BSS will raise the profile of Traditional Arts in Belfast and beyond and increase the cultural capital of the city. Benefits will be evidenced through participation of both pupils and audiences in BSS , via feedback from funders and media partners and in visitor/tourist numbers to Belfast. In the interests of best practise and to minimise any risk we have adopted 21 Policies and Procedures. There is no private benefit flowing from either of the above two purposes.
