Public benefits

The benefits that flow from the purpose of the charity is the promotion and sustainment of choral singing across all age groups, abilities and backgrounds and includes Primary School, Grammar/Secondary, Special,Youth and Adult choirs. The Choral Festival provides a specialised forum for all communities to come together to participate in a

competitive but relaxed atmosphere, where performances are accessed by professional adjudicators and where the talent of choral singing is encouraged and supported, especially in the younger performers. Each Choral Group receives a written evaluation of their performance and learns the importance of working as a group by listening and learning from other performances. This affords the opportunity to younger choirs to see and enjoy adult choral singing as a skill which can be developed and continued as they get older. The Festival encourages community involvement both through participation and support at competition performances and seeks to ensure that the talent of choral singing will continue for the future. Every competition is open to the public and gives the audience an insight into the skill of choral singing.

What your organisation does

Bangor International Choral Festival is a member of the British and International Festival’s Federation and the Northern Ireland Festival’s Federation and provides a forum for all choirs to participate, irrespective of ability or background and encourages Special Schools and Disabled Adult choirs to participate in and be part of an all-inclusive

choral event. The festival is organized by volunteers and we ensure that all Festival Policies are read and adhered to by everyone involved in the organising and day to day running of the Festival. The festival takes place annually over 4 days in the month of April in Bangor Co. Down and attracts local school and adult choirs from across Northern Ireland and choirs from United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and Europe and beyond. We engage highly qualified Adjudicators who can communicate their knowledge and expertise through in situ workshops which in turn encourages and improves participating choirs. We produce a pre Festival Syllabus containing all the Festival information which choirs require in order to make an informed choice and a Festival Programme finished to a high standard. We issue Feedback Forms to each participating choir in order to gauge the experience gained by competitors. We maintain and develop a Festival Website as a promotional tool for access to Festival information and to attract choirs and visitors. Participants and audience are encouraged to record their comments about the Festival on the Guest Comments page.
