Public benefits

(a) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include reducing isolation, improving access to information and increased opportunities for well-being. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback from our users and independent evaluations of our services. There is no harm or possibility of harm out-weighed by the benefit. The charity’s

beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the Alliance area and its environs of North Belfast in particular but not exclusively. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. (b) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased opportunities for children to learn a wide range of social, emotional, intellectual and physical skills and an increased opportunity for parents to avail of employment, training or volunteering possibilities. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback from our users and independent evaluations of our services. There is no harm or possibility of harm out-weighed by the benefit. The charity’s beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the Alliance area and its environs of North Belfast in particular but not exclusively. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. (c) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased assurance and support in parenting skills. This will be evidenced through feedback from our users and independent evaluations of our services. There is no harm or possibility of harm out-weighed by the benefit. The charity’s beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the Alliance area and its environs of North Belfast in particular but not exclusively. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. (d) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include a more skilled, flexible workforce hence reducing hardship for local families. These benefits will be evidenced through the numbers of children attending our services whose parents are working, numbers who avail of training, learning and employment initiatives and feedback from our users and independent evaluations of our services. There is no harm or possibility of harm out-weighed by the benefit. The charity’s beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the Alliance area and its environs of North Belfast in particular but not exclusively. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. (e) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include providing employment and volunteering opportunities in community initiatives and programmes as well as increased involvement of residents in community projects. These benefits will be evidenced through numbers who gain employment/take up volunteering and feedback from our users and independent evaluations of our services. There is no harm or possibility of harm out-weighed by the benefit. The charity’s beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the Alliance area and its environs of North Belfast in particular but not exclusively. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. (f) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increasing good works and deeds for those in need. What your organisation does

Wishing Well Family Centre was founded in the Alliance Crescent area of North Belfast in 1989. Over the past 27 years the organisation has gone from strength to strength, becoming a thriving community group which offers genuine opportunities for cross community interaction and development through the provision of high quality services for children,

young people, families and the wider community within Alliance and North Belfast. The centre is accessible to both Unionist and Nationalist communities in the area, offering a range of pre-school, childcare and out of schools services for children and their families, family support, facilitating community activity and meetings and also delivering an environmental project. The core focus of the organisation however is the provision of services to local children and their families, giving much needed support to parents and promoting the physical, mental and educational development of local children aged 0 – 12 years of age. From an original staff of 2, Wishing Well employs 30 full and part time members of staff and has become one of the largest employers in the area. The organisation operates best practice policies and procedures as a charitable organisation and also as a community based provider of childcare, pre-school and out of school services to children. The governance model, management structure and staff team skills and qualifications are reflective of best practice also. Current facilities; multi-purpose facility which includes multi-function community space, office accommodation, 5 play rooms and kitchen facilities. Temporary pre-fabricated building which includes the provision of a 1 pre-school room and 3 small rooms for out of schools provision and a community garden area. Current programmes; day care, pre-school and out of school services, environmental project, advice surgeries, volunteer/training programmes and educational support

Charitable purposes

The company’s objects are specifically restricted to the advancement of education and the development of children, the relief of poverty, sickness and the aged and the promotion of the benefit of the inhabitants (hereinafter called the “beneficiaries”) of the Alliance Area and its environs of North Belfast in particular but not exclusively (“hereinafter called the “area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, sexual orientation, disability/ability, race, ethnic origin, political, religious or other opinion by associating the statutory and local authorities, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants and in particular: (a) the provision, maintenance and management of a community educational resource centre and facility (hereinafter called "the Centre") for the use of the inhabitants for activities promoted or facilitated by the Company including use for meetings, lectures, classes and other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation in furtherance of the above objects; (b) to advance education and the development of children through the provision of high quality and affordable day care facilities and facilities for the recreation and education of children out-of-school hours and during school holidays and, in addition, to provide care and educational development to those children under statutory school age in the interests of social welfare so as to develop their physical, mental and emotional capacities; (c) to provide training for parents and carers of children in child development, parenting and other appropriate subjects; (d) to relieve unemployment through the provision of high quality and affordable childcare, training, learning and employment initiatives; (e) to promote or assist in promoting community capacity building programmes and projects for the benefit of the inhabitants within the area of benefit who have need of such assistance as a result of their youth, age, disability or infirmity, or social and economic circumstances, in an effort to increase the abilities, skills and self-confidence of such communities in the area of benefit; (f) to advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the directors, may from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of charity.
