Public benefits

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead

to harm. The benefit is for children at Newcastle Primary School and Nursery Unit. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm.

What your organisation does

We are an active PTA which organises social fundraising events for the families and children of the school and volunteer to help at other school events. Our PTA committee is made up of elected parents and staff. All parents and staff are invited to help run our events which are available to pupils, family & friends and the wider community. Our

two main events are the Christmas Fair and 'Party in the Park' which incorporates sports day and BBQ. We run other varied fundraising events such as discos, quizzes, raffles, fashion shows, sponsored marathon relay over the year. In consultation with the principal and staff we fund a range of items and services that directly benefit the school and children. In recent years we have bought computers, Ipads, sports and outdoor playground equipment. We also subsidise transport and tickets costs for educational class day trips. Overall we are a fundraising organisation, but an important part of our role is promoting social inclusion, community relations and providing a less formal communication channel between the parent body and the school. We try to achieve this by inviting all parents to become actively involved in out operations. Communication is key to this and this has been aided by setting up a parents facebook page as well are regular updates on the PTA page of the schools website. We build links with the wider community by working with other PTA groups from local schools and opening some of our events to families and children of this are other schools such as our Christmas Fair, Fashion Show and discos as well as subsidising joint outings to the cinema.
