Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from the centre include an increase in the social skills, improvement in emotional well-being, improved positive educational outcomes and increased spiritual development in the lives of local young people. This purpose will also provides improvements to overall community life. The benefits will be evidenced through a

number of evaluative means including: recordings and observations of staff members; other qualitative data from parents, teachers, and community representatives; quantitative data from programme and project evaluations; data from other sources including other service providers both statutory and non-statutory. There is no identifiable harm to any person through the pursuit of the above organisational purpose. Who gains and how? -P Young people in relation to individual guidance, mentoring and support Young people in relation to educational, accredited, recreational and learning opportunities Volunteers through opportunities we provide, including training which is necessary to undertake their roles. Potential employment opportunities and further training for staff once employed, as this is another vital necessity to undertake their work. How does the private benefit contribute to the organisation’s purposes? -P The children and young people benefiting from our provision ensures that the many targets and proposed outcomes contained in our annual unit action plan as required by the Education Authority Belfast Region are reached. Young peoples needs are met. Staff and volunteers are up to date with relevant training requirements. Staff and volunteers are fully supported by the management committee of the centre in meeting the needs of the young people. If there is a private benefit to a trustee, please explain how the other trustees will manage any potential conflict of interest which may arise -P Their own child may become a member of the youth centre, however this is incidental.

What your organisation does

Our organisation provides an afternoon, evening and weekend programme of youth based activity that is informal in its nature, structured, focused and outcome based, to young people from within the local community, designed in consultation with the young people and based upon their needs and is reflective of the priorities for youth policy as

outlined by the Department of Education.

Charitable purposes

The centre is established to provide, maintain and promote facilities and activities of a social, spiritual, educational and recreational nature with the objective of improving the conditions of the life of children and young people without the distinction of sex, political, religious or other opinion. In the furtherance of the above charitable objects, but not further or otherwise, the centre may: Provide, maintain and equip premises and facilities for social, spiritual, educational and recreational activities therein; Organise or assist in organising events and activities consistant with the ojects of the centre; co operate to such extent as may be necessary with the voluntary and statutory agencies and the inhabitants of the area of benefit as to advance the said objects; Raise funds and invite or receive contributions from any person or persons whatsoever by way of subscription, donation or otherwise provided that this shall not permit or entitle the centre to engage in permanent trading; Purchase, take or lease or exchange , hire or otherwise acquire any property and any rights and privileges necessary for the attainment of the said objects and construct maintain and alter any buildings or edifices so necessary as aforesaid; Affiliate to the down and Connor youth commission and to other organisations with the similar charitable objects; and Do all such lawful things as may be necessary to the attainment of the above objects.
