Public benefits
The beneficiaries of the charity are those individuals and their families within the Newtownabbey area, and its environs, who are seeking assistance on their journey in the Christian faith. As the main purposes of the Church are centred on advancing religion, some of the ways in which it has the potential to be for the public benefit would be
that it provides a sacred space, that is, church buildings for public worship services and the provision of public rituals and wedding and funeral ceremonies. Weekly worship services, at present, record approximately 600 people of the community in attendance. During the course of the year we estimate that we have contact with some 5,500 individuals from the Newtownabbey area. In addition to this with over 400 children attending the weekly ‘Kidzhouse’ club and youth clubs on a Saturday, it undoubtedly further contributes to the spiritual and moral education of children and young people in the community and is open to all children and youths in the community and further afield. The Church carries out, as a practical expression of religious beliefs, other activities (such as providing comfort to the bereaved and pastoral and social care to those of the community who are in need. It also through its pastoral care offers marriage guidance and conflict resolution and with many of its care programs helps relieve poverty. In advancing the Christian faith, the Church contributes to followers’ or adherents’ good mental and physical health; aiding the prevention of ill health, speeding recovery and fostering composure in the face of ill health; Obviously, some of the benefits that the church provides are not tangible and therefore can be difficult to identify. There is private benefit only to the extent that the Pastors of the Church receive a salary for their employment services in providing pastoral care to members and adherents of the Church. The only aspect of potential harm would be in that those of a non-religious, or more specifically anti-religious mind-set, may find the principles and practices of the Church offensive.
