Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purpose are:- • Provision of information relating to health matters to both our members and the public. • Financial support and grants provided to renal patients in need of such support. • Organisation and funding of social events and outings for kidney patients and their families/carers. • Representation of
kidney patient issues at NHS and European health forums. • Encouragement of general public to join the organ donor register. The Intended beneficiaries are:- • Kidney patients • Kidney patients’ families and carers • Renal healthcare staff • General public • Families of deceased donors • Living donors and their families • All those in need of an organ transplant Harm or potential harm:- • There is no harm or potential harm as a result of our purposes being carried out. Private Benefit:- • While the vast proportion of our benefit is public, a small amount of hardship funds are provided to individual renal patients and families in difficult circumstances. These funds are only provided when we are contacted either by social workers or senior renal medical staff. Decisions to provide such funds are always by committee consent. These benefits are evidenced by:- • Our growing membership of over 400. • Our regular newsletter which describes our activities throughout the year • Our internet/online presence nikpa.org • Our attendance at government and NHS committees. • Our financial records and minutes showing donations to needy patients and NI renal dialysis centres. • Our contribution of purchase of equipment for the Renal transplant ward at Belfast City Hospital. • Our frequent involvement in organ denotation promotion events.
