Public benefits
The benefits that flow from Greater Shantallow Community Arts delivery of our stated objectives include the Advancement of Arts Culture & Heritage within our community; the opportunities for local residents to gain direct access to the arts within disadvantaged communities in the Greater Shantallow Area/Outer North region of Derry and to join in
and be part of bringing our communities from “edge to centre” into strategic plans for the arts locally, regionally and nationally. Our activities will support the advancement of education, citizenship and community development within our community as we aim to promote artists, cultural activity, grow audiences, increase participation in the arts and provide opportunity for communities and individuals to develop skills and provide showcases for talent using a wide range of art forms. We will support the advancement of health and contribute to the saving of lives by acknowledging and using the transformative power of the arts to make strategic social interventions that alleviate complex problems including social exclusion, isolation, lack of opportunity and poverty suffered by local residents. GSCA will provide opportunity and access to the arts for local residents and users of our services regardless of cultural background, age, disability, sexual orientation or economic status. There is no private benefit, in reference to potential harm in relation to our objectives. The possibility of harm, for example by physical grievance experienced by participation in Greater Shantallow Community Arts programmes/projects such as, dance, drama, carnival parades, etc., is by far outweighed by the actual benefits gained and is significantly reduced by the policies and procedures that Greater Shantallow Community Arts have in place. For example, health and safety policy, safeguarding checklists, individual project risk assessments, equal opportunity policy and child protection policy.
