Public benefits
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead to
harm. The benefit is for children at Down High school. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Down High school. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.

Down High Association is an active PTA which organises social fundraising events for the families and children of the school. We actively volunteer for the school by helping at sports fixtures and providing refreshments, and assist with other events or activities where we can support the school and the families of the pupils within the school. Our
PTA is made up of a group of elected parents and staff. All parents and staff are invited to share their skills and help at our functions. A programme of events runs throughout the school year which is available to pupils, families and friends in the wider community. In close consultation with the Principal and teachers, we agree to fund a range of items and services that benefit the school and pupils. In recent years we have supported the extra-curricular life of the school by providing funding for new equestrian kit and supporting the provision of extra coaching for rugby and hockey teams. We have enhanced learning by providing a variety of student resources including computers, musical equipment and apparatus for Technology and Science. Outside of the classroom, all pupils benefit from the contributions made to activities which benefit an entire year group, ranging from the Year 8 induction residential to a Year 13 event which develops team-work, communication and leadership skills for students in the first full day of Sixth Form. The FODH is a fundraising organisation, but an important part of our role is promoting social inclusion, developing community relations, wellbeing and providing a less formal channel of communication between the parent body and the school.
