Public benefits

The benefit that flows from our purpose includes the following. (1) Quality, affordable and regulated childcare via our Kidz Patch facility for children aged 3-11 years in order that parents can continue to work/care knowing their children are well looked after in a safe caring environment. (2) Quality regulated day care via our Palms Facility

for vulnerable adults aged 55+ referred by the Southern Health Trust and at serious risk of social isolation in order to preserve their quality of life and give respite to carers. (3) To provide a wide ranging programme of educational and recreational classes (E.g Cedars physical and mental well being for Seniors) in a welcoming and neutral environment, in order that local residents may develop their skills, confidence, civic pride, enhance friendships and become more involved in community life. (4) Provide space for young people of the area where they can meet with their peers and take part in programmes tailored to their needs such as the Summer Activity Week and Youth Peace Schemes. They are then less likely to engage in antisocial behaviour, become more involved in community life, develop positive friendships and be more confident in articulating their views. (5) Provision of affordable quality facilities for other charitable organisations (Alzheimers Society and Parkinsons UK etc), statutory bodies (Health Trusts, Councils) and other individuals to improve the conditions of life in the area, therefore advancing education, social welfare and well being. (6) Promotion of good relations, peace building, religious and racial harmony through our dedicated Community Relations programme which enables a more peaceful and sustainable local society. (7) Participation in regional and local networking forums (Social Economy Hub, Aging Well Partnership, Peace Forum) which results in information sharing of best practice, increased learning, economies of scale for use of resources and an overall increase in community spirit. (8) Advancement of the Christian faith via provision of affordable facilities to Church organisations and also via our own programme of Bible studies and religious services organized internally. These benefits are measured by the number of activities/training/events each year and the number of individuals participating. People are encouraged to complete evaluation sheets and SPCA strives to get as much feedback as possible both from the general public and from the client organisations. Where funding is received from statutory organisations evaluations are a requirement but where self funded good practice.. There is no private benefit from these activities except for when individual tutors/performers are paid for their services. All members of SPCA act as volunteers for the good of the community and do not expect private benefit. There is no harm flowing from any of the above activities.
